Two early Space Shuttle-era official NASA travel voucher authorization documents signed by John Young, then serving as Chief of the Astronaut Office:
- DS signed "John W. Young," one page, 8 x 5, September 5, 1978, approving the travel of "Dr. William E. Thornton" to "cover a PDR of the Flight Support System of the MMS." Stapled to an 8 x 10.5 travel voucher memorandum with a schedule of expenses and amounts claimed. The Multi-mission Modular Spacecraft (MMS) was originally designed by NASA to serve the largest array of functions for the space program possible to decrease the cost of space missions.
- DS signed "John W. Young," one page, 8 x 5, October 17, 1978, approving the travel of "Dr. William E. Thornton" for a "Solar Maximum Mission (SMM) Preliminary Design Review (PDR)." Stapled to an 8.5 x 11 travel voucher memorandum with a schedule of expenses and amounts claimed. The SMM was a satellite designed to investigate solar phenomena, particularly solar flares; it was launched on February 14, 1980, as the first satellite based on the Multimission Modular Spacecraft bus manufactured by Fairchild Industries.
In overall very good to fine condition, with paper loss to the edge of one of the travel voucher memoranda.
