Description

DS, one page, both sides, 8.5 x 14, March 22, 1956. William Morris Agency exclusive agency contract executed by Frank Sinatra, engaging the famed talent agency as his exclusive representative in the variety field under the jurisdiction of the American Guild of Variety Artists (AGVA). The agreement establishes a three-year term beginning May 31, 1956, and ending May 30, 1959, with Sinatra agreeing to pay the agency a standard ten-percent commission on engagements secured during the contract period. Signed at the conclusion in blue ballpoint by Frank Sinatra. In very good condition, with overall toning, dampstaining, edgewear, a missing bottom corner, and rust stains and remnants to upper portion; Sinatra's signature remains relatively unaffected.

Executed during one of the most remarkable periods of Sinatra's career, this contract dates to the height of his extraordinary mid-1950s resurgence. By March 1956, he had completed one of the greatest comebacks in entertainment history, having revived his fortunes through From Here to Eternity (1953), won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor, reestablished himself as a major recording artist for Capitol Records, and returned to the top ranks of concert and nightclub performers. Earlier that month, Sinatra had released the landmark album Songs for Swingin' Lovers!, widely regarded as one of the defining popular music recordings of the twentieth century.
