Description

Autograph endorsement in pencil, "Blinne, Buchanan How about his suggestions on next page, E.," at the head of a two-page letter sent to him by F. S. Blinne, 8.5 x 11, June 1, 1926. Blinne's letter concerns "the inspection of records returned after use," with suggestions on time-saving measures. In part: "When Mr. Buchanan came to me about a week ago I suggested that the elimination of the clerical work involved in keeping the sets numbered would save about 1/3 of the work. This has been done. Also the necessary work remaining namely the washing, relabeling, inspection and packing is organized not as a separate department as heretofore…You may recall that when you asked that the inspection of the sets be made on an ear-test basis and for which the booths were built in #21 Building you charged me with the responsibility of the surface. The inspection has been done along the lines you suggested at that time…in my opinion the sets now on hand are in a very presentable condition for demonstrating purposes. I believe that the responsibility for the condition of the records from now on should be shifted inasmuch as the supervision and authority over the personnel has been delegated to Mr. Hall. The daily report on the number and percentage of discards comes naturally under that department." In fine condition, with uniform toning. Edison carefully controlled the processes in his factories and laboratories, and had famously introduced the 'Edison Diamond Disc Record' in 1912.
