Issue #1 of Byte: The Small Systems Journal from September 1975, 8.25 x 10.75, 96 pages, signed on the front cover in black ballpoint by the magazine's founding editor, "Carl Helmers, 2013/04/02." In fine condition, with light creasing to the front cover, and small surface abrasion to the back cover, which carries an advertisement for the MITS Altair 8800 Computer.

Launched at the dawn of the personal computer era, Byte became one of the defining journals of the microcomputer revolution, giving hobbyists, engineers, and early entrepreneurs a forum for exchanging ideas, designs, reviews, and technical knowledge. Its debut issue appeared the same year as the Altair 8800 and helped chronicle—and catalyze—the rapid transformation of small computers from enthusiast kits into the foundation of a new industry. In December 1975, Paul Terrell founded The Byte Shop, one of the first personal computer retail stores, placing him at the commercial heart of the same movement that Byte helped define in print—a remarkable convergence of publication, product, and marketplace at the birth of the microcomputer age.
