TeleVideo PT-100 Personal Terminal from the personal collection of Byte Shop founder Paul Terrell, a compact early-1980s video display terminal designed for connection to host computers, multi-user systems, and business microcomputers. The all-in-one unit features an integrated CRT monitor, attached full keyboard with function keys, and front badge reading: “TeleVideo Personal Terminal.” Untested and in very good cosmetic condition, with scattered scuffs, marks, and surface wear to the case and keyboard.
Introduced in the early 1980s, the TeleVideo PT-100 reflected the terminal industry’s move toward smaller, lower-cost, microprocessor-based desktop workstations for business and professional users. Terminals of this type served as the essential human interface to CP/M systems, S-100 machines, minicomputers, and early networked office computers before the personal computer fully absorbed the role of both display terminal and central processor. With its Byte Shop provenance, this example is especially evocative of the transitional period when dedicated terminals, kit computers, and early commercial microcomputers coexisted on the sales floor at the dawn of the personal computing revolution.
