In full: "I have just learned that your youngest son, Major Lyman Patterson, Maryland National Guard, who recently lost his life in an airplane crash, was one of five that you gave for service in the Army during the World War. I send you deep sympathy and my hope that the thought of Major Patterson's life of service to his country and usefulness in the development of aviation may serve to soften your sorrow." In fine condition. Accompanied by the original White House mailing envelope, a letter of recognition from the American Legion, and two original vintage glossy 8 x 6 photographs of Maj. Patterson in his flying uniform.
