Vintage autograph album, 5.75 x 4.25, signed inside on the same page in ballpoint, “Beatles, Paul McCartney, xxx” and “John Lennon, xxx.” The consignor notes that the signatures were obtained at the ABC Theatre in Romford, England, on March 20, 1963, when the Beatles were on their second tour of the UK supporting Chris Montez and Tommy Roe. The autograph album also contains signatures of Donovan, Eric Burden, Eric Haydock and Allan Clarke of The Hollies, Cliff Richard, The Swinging Blue Jeans, and others. In fine condition, with toning along the left edge from old tape on the back.
Accompanied by a certificate of authenticity from Tracks. The presence of John Lennon and Paul McCartney together on a single page is especially desirable, uniting one of the most influential songwriting partnerships in modern music history.
On March 20, 1963, the Beatles performed at the ABC Cinema in Romford, England, the 11th date of their spring UK tour with Chris Montez and Tommy Roe. Although Montez and Roe had been contracted as the tour's headlining acts, audience reaction to the Beatles had been so overwhelming from the outset that by this stage of the engagement the group had emerged as its principal attraction, eclipsing the originally announced headliners.
Their six-song set that evening — ‘Love Me Do,’ ‘Misery,’ ‘A Taste of Honey,’ ‘Do You Want to Know a Secret,’ ‘Please Please Me,’ and ‘I Saw Her Standing There’ — reflected the compact, high-energy format the group employed throughout the tour. Two days later, on March 22, 1963, Please Please Me was released, the debut album that confirmed the Beatles' rapid ascent and marked the arrival of a new force in British popular music.
