Description

(Walt Disney Studios, circa 1951) Development group lot of four items related to Disney's Academy Award-winning ‘Nature's Half Acre’ short documentary film, as part of their True-Life Adventures series, which includes: a large 8.25 x 15.5 graphite concept drawing of the film's magical paintbrush motif, an original 9.25 x 7 silver gelatin reference photograph of a wooded location, a pastel color 9 x 7.75 concept study based upon that photograph, and the final 12.25 x 12.75 hand-painted master background depicting the same forest scene. The group offers a rare step-by-step record of Disney's creative process, tracing the evolution of a single image from live-action source material through artistic interpretation to finished production artwork. In overall very good to fine condition.

Released in 1951, Nature's Half Acre was a short documentary directed by James Algar and produced by Walt Disney as part of the studio's acclaimed True-Life Adventures series. The film examined the hidden world of plants, insects, and other small creatures through innovative nature photography, earning the Academy Award for Best Short Subject (Two-Reel) at the 24th Academy Awards. During its original theatrical run, Nature's Half Acre was paired with Disney's animated feature Alice in Wonderland.
