Description

World War I-dated DS, signed “Thos. A. Edison,” one page, 8.25 x 3.5, January 3, 1917. A Union Trust Company of New York ‘Trust Department’ receipt acknowledging payment from the company as trustee for Charles Edison, payable to “Thomas A. Edison” in the amount of $528.94 for “one-third share payment of net income.” Signed at the conclusion by Thomas Edison with his characteristic ‘umbrella’ signature. In fine condition, with multiple file holes, none near the signature. This document concerns a trust disbursement connected to Edison’s son, Charles Edison, who would later serve as governor of New Jersey and secretary of the Navy. The receipt provides a glimpse into the financial affairs of the Edison family during the inventor’s later years.
