Scottish-American detective and founder (1819-1884) of the Pinkerton National Detective Agency, known for his claim to have foiled an 1861 plot to assassinate president-elect Abraham Lincoln. Vintage matte-finish 8 x 10 photo of Allan Pinkerton in a bust-length pose, signed at the bottom of the image in bold ink, "Yours truly, Allan Pinkerton, 1866." Annotated on the reverse in pencil as being from the collection of Lloyd Ostendorf, famed for cataloging the portraits of Lincoln. In very good to fine condition, with trimmed edges, irregular overall toning, and dampstaining to the bottom edge.
