Flown single-sided 5 x 8 cue card carried and used on the Space Shuttle Discovery during STS-82, headed "EVA Brief Card Day 1," with extensive in-flight handwritten notes. The card outlines the procedures undertaken by astronauts Mark Lee and Steve Smith for their lengthy EVA, from suit donning and egress to close-out and ingress. In fine condition, with a central horizontal fold.
Accompanied by a letter of provenance signed by Mission Specialist 5 Steven L. Smith, certifying that this cue card "was flown into space aboard Discovery and achieved the highest altitude ever attained by a STS Orbiter (335-nautical-mile (620 km) at that time. It flew over 3.2 million during our mission to repair the Hubble telescope from December 19-27, 1999.
On this EVA, two major Hubble instruments were installed: STS and NICMOS. This card was used the night before the EVA to review the EVA one final time. The card has very extensive handwritten notes for what was done by Mark Lee and myself to keep us from forgetting anything. I performed three EVAs totaling 19 hours and 10 minutes repairing and upgrading the Hubble Space Telescope.
STS-82 demonstrated anew the capability of the space shuttle to service orbiting spacecraft as well as the benefits of human spaceflight. A six-member crew completed servicing and upgrading of the Hubble Space Telescope (HST) during four planned extravehicular activities (EVAs) and then performed a fifth unscheduled spacewalk to repair insulation on the telescope."
