Third-person autograph document, signed within the text, "Ad'l Nelson," one page, 4.75 x 7.75, no date. Handwritten list of recommendations for promotions by Horatio Nelson, likely written after the Battle of the Nile. In part: "Mr. Brady gunner of Mutine put into the Franklin, Mr. Jno. Campbell…as purser of the Franklin, Wm. Sanders, gunner…recommended strongly by Capt. Ball to act as gunner of Mutine, Francis Cook sent down in the Franklin, recommended for a Boatswain, came out in the Agamemnon with Ad'l Nelson, very fit for a good frigate." In fine condition, with contemporary ink cancelations to the text.
Horatio Nelson’s association with HMS Agamemnon was one of the most formative periods of his naval career. Serving aboard the 64-gun ship from 1793 to 1796, Nelson gained a reputation for bold leadership and tactical skill during operations in the Mediterranean, particularly against French forces. He later referred to Agamemnon as his 'favorite ship,' crediting his time aboard her with shaping the aggressive, decisive command style that would define his later victories and secure his place as one of Britain’s greatest naval heroes.
From the personal collection of a lifelong collector, teacher, and traveler with a passion for world history. His collecting years ranged from the 1970s to the present day, meaning that several of the premier pieces have not been on the market in decades.
