Description

Emperor of Russia until his assassination in 1881 (born 1818), who also served as the King of Poland and the Grand Duke of Finland; became known as Alexander the Liberator for his emancipation of Russia's serfs in 1861. Manuscript DS in Russian, signed “Alexander,” one page both sides, 8.75 x 14, October 25, 1863. Imperial decree issued by Tsar Alexander II awarding Counter-Admiral and Military Governor of Taganrog Mikhail Lavrov the Imperial Order of St. Anna, First Class, in recognition of his (translated) “excellent, diligent, and zealous service.” The formal document opens with the imperial style, “By the Grace of God, We, Alexander II, Emperor and Autocrat of All the Russias,” and concludes with a bold flourish signature of the Tsar. Countersigned by the Chancellor of Orders, and dated at Tiflis below an original paper seal. In fine condition.
