TLS signed “Thomas A. Edison,” one page, 8.5 x 11, From the Laboratory of Thomas A. Edison letterhead, October 31, 1911. Letter to Harry V. Herrmann of New York City, in full: "Your reply to my advertisement has been received and its contents noted. I am preparing a statement of the proposition under consideration, and in a few days shall take pleasure in sending same to you, at which time we can arrange for a personal interview if deemed desirable." In fine condition.

Accompanied by two secretarially-signed letters from Edison, plus one of Herrmann's retained carbon copies. Edison notes that his goal was to "get in touch with a class of men with small capital, to whom I could offer opportunities for merchandising various articles which are constantly being brought out in our Laboratory and Works," and was puzzled by the overwhelming response he received. In one of these pieces of secretarial correspondence, he explains that the introduction of electric lighting to rural areas presents a valuable business opportunity, focusing on "the Electric Lighting of Country Estates lying beyond the lines of the Lighting Companies in towns and cities."
