Description

ANS in pencil, signed “E,” one page, 8.5 x 11, Edison Chemical Works letterhead, July 28, 1913. Handwritten note at the head of a letter sent to him by J. V. Miller, raising a question about construction at their plant. Edison writes, in full: "Miller—I have sent for copy of law—for 8 ft up on both sides there is no corrugated iron, the wind blows clear thru the building." Miller's letter draws his attention to concerns about "the construction of the building in which the furnaces are to be located in the new plant," in part: "The State Factory Inspector had made us a visit and questioned the matter of space in the new buildings around the furnaces. On looking at our present Iron Reduction plant, she said that the space was entirely too small, stating that there should be at least three times as much space around the furnaces as we have…The Inspector further stated that a new state law was put in force on July 4, 1913, regarding this matter of space in buildings, temperatures in which men have to work, etc." In fine condition.

From the personal collection of a lifelong collector, teacher, and traveler with a passion for world history. His collecting years ranged from the 1970s to the present day, meaning that several of the premier pieces have not been on the market in decades.
