World War II-dated DS, one page, 8 x 10.5, United States Engineer Office (Santa Fe, New Mexico) letterhead, October 19, 1944. Official wartime memorandum addressed to the District Engineer at Oak Ridge, Tennessee, with subject “Transmittal of Transportation Requests,” confirming the transmission of two books of transportation requests, with detailed serial ranges, and requesting acknowledgment of receipt at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. Signed at the conclusion by Whitney Ashbridge as “Lt Col, Corps of Engineers.” The document bears a ‘Dispatched’ Army Engineer Office stamp dated the following day. In fine condition. An uncommon administrative document linking two of the most critical sites of the Manhattan Project – Los Alamos (via the Santa Fe Engineer Office) and Oak Ridge – during the height of wartime operations, signed by Lt. Col. Whitney Ashbridge, who served as post commander at Los Alamos.
