American inventor and entrepreneur (1854–1932), founder of the Eastman Kodak company, whose invention of roll film revolutionized photography and helped make the once-specialized art and craft a popular pastime. World War I-dated TLS signed “Geo. Eastman,” one page, 8.25 x 7.25, Eastman Kodak Company (Rochester, New York) letterhead, May 24, 1917. Letter to Dr. George F. Kunz, president of the American Scenic and Historic Preservation Society in New York City, in full: “Thank you for your letter of the 33rd inviting me to the Annual Exercises to take place at Letchworth Park on Saturday, the 26th, at twelve o'clock. Much as I should like to accept I have engagements which prevent my doing so I am sorry to say.” In very good to fine condition, with light toning, minor corner loss, and a bit of old newspaper clipping at the bottom edge.
