Description

German doctor and politician (1821-1902), dubbed the 'Father of Pathology,' who founded the field of social medicine. ALS in German, signed “R. Virchow,” one page both sides, 5.5 x 8.75, June 28, 1870. Handwritten letter to a gentlemen, inquiring about his collection of pointed stones from Silesia and Lusatia. He asks about where they were found and their archaeological context ("burial site or settlement?"), as well as the nature of the rock. In very good to fine condition, with light creasing, and staining along the top front edge from an old mounting strip on the back.

From the personal collection of a lifelong collector, teacher, and traveler with a passion for world history. His collecting years ranged from the 1970s to the present day, meaning that several of the premier pieces have not been on the market in decades.
