Description

American railroad executive and philanthropist (1821-1885). Manuscript DS, signed "W. H. Vanderbilt," three pages on two sheets, 7.75 x 11.5, February 7, 1876. Indenture between Vanderbilt and the New York Central and Hudson River Railroad Company regarding the foreclosure sale of a property near Battery Park. Document is affixed at the top to its original 7.75 x 13.25 storage folder, and bears a small red seal affixed beside Vanderbilt's signature. In very good condition, with moderate separations to horizontal storage folds (including complete separation to first page).

From the personal collection of a lifelong collector, teacher, and traveler with a passion for world history. His collecting years ranged from the 1970s to the present day, meaning that several of the premier pieces have not been on the market in decades.
