Period autograph album containing over 50 signatures of noted Union Army officers from the Civil War, each signed on individual slips and cards, with a few letters and notes also included. Highlights include: George B. McClellan, Joseph Hooker, Winfield Scott, Oliver Otis Howard (2), Robert Anderson, John Adams Dix, Henry Halleck, Edward Canby, David Hunter, William Sprague IV, Peter Joseph Osterhaus, John Milton Thayer, Grenville M. Dodge, George H. Cooper, William Vandever, Jefferson C. Davis, John S. Phelps, and more. The majority of the signatures can be easily removed from their die-cut slots. In overall very good to fine condition, with wear to the album's covers. Accompanied by the four-volume book set Battles and Leaders of the Civil War, hardcovers with slipcases, published by the Century Co., between 1884-1887.
From the collection of Sherman G. Sackett (1853-1904), a noted assayer and metallurgist of Colorado. He was one of the best-known metal experts in the West, and as chief clerk at the U.S. Mint during two administrations had earned the favor and friendship of every mining man in Colorado.
