Description

American military officer (1865–1912) who served as an influential aide to presidents Roosevelt and Taft before perishing in the sinking of the Titanic. Scarce vintage matte-finish 9.25 x 13.5 portrait of Butt in uniform by Harris & Ewing, signed and inscribed in fountain pen to a New York Sun newspaper correspondent, "To Robert D. Heinl, with affectionate regards, Archibald W. Butt, March 1911.” In fine condition, with chipping to the edges and corners of the original frame. A scarce and desirable format as the first signed photograph of Archibald Butt that we have ever offered.
