Description

DS, signed “Thos. A. Edison,” four pages both sides, 8 x 11, July 30, 1926. Document headed "Minutes of a Meeting of the Board of Directors of Edison Storage Battery Company,” in which Edison resigns his position as the company's president to be named chairman of the board. In part: "Mr. Charles Edison stated that after due consideration given to the subject by members of the Board, it seemed to them to be advisable and more logical for Mr. Thomas A. Edison, now President, to head the list of officers of the corporation, as Chairman of the Board of Directors, instead of himself, and he recommended that these titles be changed accordingly, that is to say, that Mr. Thomas A. Edison be elected Chairman of the Board of Directors, and Mr. Charles Edison be elected President."

The lengthy text goes on to outline the organization's bylaws, discussing in detail the power and authority of its executives and various other components of corporate structure. Signed at the conclusion in fountain pen by Charles Edison, Thomas Edison, Henry Lanahan, Harry Miller, J. V. Miller, and Fred W. Roh. In fine condition. The Edison Storage Battery Company was organized in New Jersey on May 27, 1901, to develop, manufacture, and sell the alkaline storage battery that Edison had developed, which was used for mining lamps, train lighting and signaling, submarines, and electric vehicles.
