Description

TLS as president-elect, signed “Wm. H. Taft,” one page, 5.25 x 8.25, personal letterhead, December 21, 1908. Letter to J. C. Shaffer of the Chicago Evening Post, in full: "In selecting my cabinet I would like to talk over different men with leaders of public opinion in order to get their impression from a somewhat different standpoint than the one I am likely to have. I therefore write to say to you that if in the course of the next month you could take several days off and come down to Augusta, I should like to have a talk with you over some of the names suggested to me as cabinet officers. Should you find it inconvenient of course do not trouble to come, but I hope you can take a little pleasurable vacation and at the same time assist me with your advice." In fine condition, with slight blurriness to the type.
