Description

Renowned American artist (1891-1942), one of the principal figures of the Regionalist movement of the 1930s and 1940s, whose painting 'American Gothic' takes a place among the most recognizable icons in the history of American culture. TLS, one page, 7 x 8.5, personal letterhead, July 1, 1940. Letter to Elizabeth Schenk, in part: "Thanks for your courtesy in sending me by registered mail a copy of Mr. Keedick's communication of June 10th. I did receive the original copy of this letter. However, if you will review the recent correspondence between Mr. Keedick and myself, you will see that his letter of the 10th merely reverts back to issues that had already been covered explicitly by my letter of May 26 and the contract I sent him from California. As a reply to my letter of the 8th, Mr. Keedick's letter of the 10th merely serves to confirm his rejection of the contract I sent him. The matter, therefore, has been closed. I would appreciate it if you would send me, at your convenience, the two copies of the contract which I sent to Mr. Keedick." Handsomely triple-matted and framed with an image of his most famous painting, 'American Gothic,' to an overall size of 23.25 x 16.25. In fine condition.
