Signed book: General Wainwright's Story. First edition. Garden City, NY: Doubleday, 1946. Hardcover with dust jacket, 6 x 8.25, 314 pages. Signed on the first free end page in fountain pen, "J. M. Wainwright, General, U.S.A." In fine condition. Accompanied by a transmittal letter from Brig. Gen. Lewis C. Beebe on Headquarters Fourth Army letterhead, March 26, 1946, to Fred Haeberlin, managing editor of the St. Paul Pioneer Press and Dispatch, in part: "I am sending you under separate cover a copy of General Wainwright's personal story in book form which he has autographed and which I thought you might like to have for your own collection. You will note he states in the acknowledgment in the front of the book that I underwent the same experiences so it is more or less my story as well as his. The book is not yet on sale and will not be until April 4th when it will be placed on sale throughout the United States. The book I am sending you is one of the advance copies which were sent to General Wainwright."
