Description

World War I-dated DS, signed “F. D. Roosevelt,” one page, 8 x 10.5, Navy Department letterhead, February 28, 1917. Official memorandum sent to Paymaster E. C. Tobey via the director of Naval Intelligence on the matter of “Increase in allowance for maintenance as Assistant Naval Attache.” The message reads: “1. In view of the unusual conditions which have existed for some time, your allowance for maintenance while in the performance of duties as Assistant Naval Attache at London is increased to 300 per month, effective from January 1, 1917, and to continue until further notice. / 2. This allowance is cumulative within each fiscal year.” Signed at the conclusion in bold ink by Franklin D. Roosevelt as Assistant Secretary of the Navy. In fine condition, with a trivial chip to the left edge.
