Christie on signing autographs—"It is not necessary for authors as their books are their offerings to their public"

ALS signed “A. C.,” one page of a self-contained air mail letter, 6 x 8.25, August 29 [1971]. Addressed from Winterbrook House in Wallingford, a handwritten letter to the Kothbauers, in full: “Thank you for your letter – I do not have any pictures or photographs to send. It is not necessary for authors as their books are their offerings to their public – not their own personality like actors or politicians. I will put an autograph in a space at the bottom of this letter which I hope will do instead.” Christie has added her full signature to the return address section on the reverse: “Dame Agatha Christie.” In fine condition.
