United States Navy corpsman (1923–1994) who was a member of the patrol that captured the top of Mount Suribachi and raised the first U.S. flag on Iwo Jima on February 23, 1945. ANS signed "John Bradley," one page, 5 x 3, no date. Handwritten letter of thanks, in full: "Thanks for the Iwo sand. I hope you are in the best of health. I am just fine & so is my family." Matted with a sheet of fifty 3¢ Iwo Jima postage stamps, and a small plastic container of sand attributed to Iwo Jima, to an overall size of 19 x 11. In fine condition.
