French general (1852–1931) who served as Commander-in-Chief of French forces on the Western Front from the start of World War I until the end of 1916; hailed as the savior of France for his victory at the Marne. Vintage matte-finish 4.75 x 7.25 photo of Marshal Joffre decked out in full military regalia, signed and inscribed in the lower border in fountain pen, "Mr. Rodman Wanamaker, Le Marichal J. Joffre, 28-4-22.” Matted to an overall size of 7 x 10. In very good to fine condition, with staining to the mat, and silvering to the image.
