Description

Signer of the Declaration of Independence from Rhode Island (1707-1785) who served as the colony's governor in the 1750s and 1760s. Manuscript DS, signed “Step. Hopkins,” one page, 6.25 x 2.25, March 1, 1757. As governor of Rhode Island, Stephen Hopkins issues a pay order of four pounds and 10 shillings to a member of the “Council of War.” Signed at the conclusion by Hopkins. Double-matted and framed with an engraved plate to an overall size of 12 x 11. In fine condition, with slightly irregular toning.
