Early twice-signed partly-printed DS, filled out entirely in the hand of Calvin Coolidge during his short tenure as clerk of the courts in Hampshire County, Massachusetts, three pages on two adjoining sheets, 8.5 x 11, December 5, 1903. A deed transfer form from the Hampshire County Registry of Deeds, which finds Adam Petrowsky of Northampton assigning “a certain tract of land situate in the Meadows in said Northampton…containing two acres more or less” to William W. Boyton for the sum of $220. Coolidge fills out the document in black ink and signs his name twice at the conclusion: as a witness and as the justice of the peace. In fine condition. An appreciably early document from Coolidge that predates his entrance into state politics. Not long after he submitted this deed, Coolidge unsuccessfully ran for the Northampton school board in 1904. Two years later he won a close election and earned a seat in the Massachusetts House of Representatives.
