Description

A month before his retirement, Baden-Powell on his life’s mission “of giving to young fellows freedom in developing themselves in body, mind and spirit”

TLS signed “Baden-Powell,” one page, 5 x 8, Pax Hill letterhead, July 13, 1937. Letter to Mr. Kennedy, in full: "Thank you very much for you letter of 6th June, appreciating what I am trying to do in the matter of giving to young fellows freedom in developing themselves in body, mind and spirit, while avoiding the rocks on which so many are apt to run, (as show in my book, 'Rovering to Success.'). I appreciate very much your taking the trouble to write to me as you did." Baden-Powell has made a couple corrections in his own hand. In fine condition, with light edge toning from prior display. An 81-year-old Baden-Powell announced his retirement from the Scouts at the 5th World Scout Jamboree on August 9, 1937, less a month after this letter was written.
