James C. Fargo

Brother of American Express founder William C. Fargo (1829–1915) who himself later served as president of that company. DS, signed “Jas. C. Fargo,” four pages, 8 x 13, January 26, 1904. Agreement between the Westcott Express Company and the Delaware, Lackawanna, and Western Railroad to “establish a baggage transfer system in the cities of New York and Hoboken for the prompt and proper transportation of baggage to and from the several piers” in exchange for a yearly sum of $1000. Signed at the conclusion by Fargo and countersigned by several witnesses. Document remains in its original paper folder. In fine condition, with expected document wear. Accompanied by a full letter of authenticity from PSA/DNA. RR Auction COA.
