Printed lighting schematic flown and used on the Apollo 16 mission, 27 x 10.5 (open), signed in blue felt tip “This diagram was used by John Young & myself aboard our lunar module ‘Orion,’ on the Cayley Plains of the moon! April 20–23, 1972, Charles M. Duke, Jr., Lunar Module Pilot,” and “John Young, Apollo 16 CDR.” Duke has also added several explanatory labels and notations, including “Lunar surface stay time—71 hours.” Accompanied by two color letters of authenticity and provenance signed by Duke, including one that explains the item’s original purpose: “If a failure of our lighting system had occurred on the moon, we would have referred to this schematic. Fortunately, everything worked superbly, and we were able to focus our efforts on exploring the moon…. This lighting schematic has remained a treasured part of my personal space collection for thirty years, ever since NASA presented it back to me in 1972, shortly after my return to Earth. Today, this schematic endures as one of the largest technical diagrams ever used by man on another world in private hands, and a rare example of an astronaut flight-certified lunar artifact.” A pictorial Novaspace certificate of authenticity for Young’s signature is also included. Marginal spot of tape residue from original binder tab, and original folds, otherwise fine condition. Flown and dual-signed items of this size are uncommon.
