LS as president signed “Benj. Harrison,” one page, lightly-lined, 7.75 x 10.5, Executive Mansion letterhead, April 8, 1891. Harrison declines an invitation to a banquet. In part: “I beg to acknowledge the receipt of the invitation of the Young Republicans of Philadelphia…In view of the necessary preparations for a contemplated trip it will be impossible for me to enjoy the pleasure of meeting with you…I am so much occupied this morning that I can only express my interest in your organization and the hope that it may be made increasingly effective in the triumph of those correct principles of Government which the Republican party has consistently advocated.” Accompanied by an engraved portrait of Harrison. In fine condition, with light intersecting folds, one through a single letter of signature, a mild shade of overall toning, and a small pencil notation to top left.
