The eighty-five year old Carroll still retained a vivid interest and knowledge of his lands, crops and tenants. He orders “Mr. Dean, to begin and pack & prize tobacco.” he also reminds the correspondent that as he had “paid the Ellicotts $120 for the gray Mare you can have but little money on hand and therefore you must press the tenants at Cantonville & the Manor owing arrears to pay them.” Letter is affixed by its left edges to a larger sheet.
