Governor Samuel Adams militia appointment

Adams opposed British colonial taxation. He urged people not to buy British goods and probably participated in the Boston Tea Party with the Sons of Liberty. Elected to both Continental Congresses, he was a Signer of the Declaration of Independence, yet refused to attend the Constitutional Convention. He later was Governor of Massachusetts. DS, signed “Saml Adams,” one page, 14 x 12, October 16, 1793. Governor Adams appoints Ebenezer Shillaber a Quartermaster in the Massachusetts Militia. Signed in black ink under the paper seal by Adams and countersigned by John Avery. In very good condition, with light storage folds, light overall toning and a few heavier spots from old tape remnants and a few small areas of paper loss along folds.
