Published in 1978, The Stand became one of Stephen King’s defining novels, transforming a catastrophic pandemic into an epic struggle between good and evil across a devastated America. Its vast cast, apocalyptic scope, and enduring themes of faith and moral choice helped establish King not merely as a horror writer, but as a major storyteller of contemporary American fiction.
