DS, signed “Steven McQueen,” seven pages, 8.5 x 13, February 22, 1973. Significant second amendment to Steve McQueen's contract with Les Films Corona for his starring role in the prison-escape epic Papillon. Executed during production of the acclaimed 1973 film, the amendment substantially improves McQueen's compensation package, granting him 10% of gross receipts earned in the United States and Canada in excess of $15 million, plus an additional 5% of gross receipts between $30 million and $40 million. The agreement also restructures his guaranteed compensation through a $500,000 payment and a $1.5 million promissory note, provides for additional contingent profit participation, increases expense allowances, and includes provisions for security and support personnel during location filming in Jamaica. Signed at the conclusion in black felt tip by McQueen. In fine condition. Released in December 1973, Papillon represented one of the most ambitious projects of Steve McQueen's career, pairing the actor with Dustin Hoffman in the long-awaited adaptation of Henri Charrière's bestselling memoir. Filmed on location in Jamaica and Spain, the production became a critical and commercial success and remains among the most celebrated prison dramas ever produced.
