Description

Extraordinary Nuremberg International Military Tribunal indictment signed by all eight judges—Lawrence, Biddle, Nikitchenko, Donnedieu de Vabres, and alternates

Disbound official printed indictment of the "International Military Tribunal" at Nuremberg (US/France/UK/USSR vs. Goering et al.), 8 x 13, 43 pages, signed in the lower margin of the front page by all eight judges: Lord Justice Geoffrey Lawrence (UK, President), Sir Norman Birkett (UK, Alternate), Francis Biddle (US, Judge), John J. Parker (US, Alternate), Henri Donnedieu de Vabres (France, Judge), Robert Falco (France, Alternate), Maj. Gen. Iona T. Nikitchenko (USSR, Judge), and Lt. Col. Alexander Volchkov (USSR, Alternate).

The core of the booklet is devoted to the four counts of the indictment—conspiracy, crimes against peace, war crimes, and crimes against humanity—each supported by extensive narrative descriptions of policies, actions, and coordinated efforts attributed to the defendants. Specific references are made to aggressive war planning, violations of international treaties, atrocities committed in occupied territories, and the systematic persecution and extermination of Jews. Appendices and sections toward the end further clarify specific charges against the defendants—outlining the alleged crimes of Göring, Hess, Ribbentrop, Ley, Dönitz, Jodl, Keitel, and other top Nazi figures—as well as the legal definitions employed by the tribunal. In very good to fine condition, with some small edge tears and rust marks. Accompanied by two original glossy press photos of the panel of Nuremberg judges.

This official indictment from the International Military Tribunal at Nuremberg led to the landmark trials in which 24 major Nazi leaders were prosecuted before a panel of judges representing the United States, United Kingdom, France, and the Soviet Union—including signatories Lord Justice Geoffrey Lawrence, Francis Biddle, Henri Donnedieu de Vabres, and Iona T. Nikitchenko. The proceedings resulted in twelve death sentences, several long-term prison terms, and a small number of acquittals, reflecting both the severity of the crimes and the tribunal’s commitment to due process. As affirmed by the full bench whose signatures appear here, the outcomes established the enduring principle that individuals—even at the highest levels of government—could be held personally accountable under international law for crimes against humanity.
