English artist and book illustrator (1879-1976) known especially for his human-like animals in illustrations for Winnie-the-Pooh by A. A. Milne. Charming original pencil sketch of Winnie-the-Pooh and Piglet accomplished by Ernest Shepard inside a 4.75 x 7 luncheon menu card, signed and inscribed below, "With love to Lizzie, Ernest H. Shepard, Feb. 3rd, 1931." Also signed on the card's reverse by other attendees. In very good to fine condition, with soiling and old tape stains, and toning to the signed panel from prior display.
Created in 1931, during the height of the Pooh books’ early success, this drawing reflects the enduring appeal of these iconic figures, whose gentle humor and friendship have resonated with audiences for nearly a century. An superb example of Shepard’s artwork, closely tied to one of the most cherished stories in children’s literature.
