Vintage matte-finish 7.5 x 9.5 portrait photo of John F. Kennedy seated at his desk, taken by Alfred Eisenstaedt after he was nominated the Democratic presidential candidate in August of 1960, affixed to its original 10.25 x 13.25 mount, which is signed and inscribed in fountain pen, “For Hugh O’Brian, with my best regards, John Kennedy.” Framed and in fine condition.
Although the recipient is likely Hugh O’Brian—the U.S. Marine-turned-Hollywood actor and noted humanitarian—the name also recalls Hugh O’Brien, Boston’s first Irish and Catholic mayor. The parallel is fitting, as Kennedy himself would go on to become the first Roman Catholic president of the United States upon his inauguration in 1961.
