Description

JFK appoints Baltimore's former mayor as a "Member of the Renegotiation Board"

Partly-printed DS as president, one page, 22.5 x 18.5, March 27, 1961. President Kennedy appoints Thomas D'Alesandro, Jr., of Maryland, as "a Member of the Renegotiation Board." Signed at the conclusion in ink by President John F. Kennedy, and countersigned by Acting Secretary of State Chester Bowles. The white paper seal affixed at the lower left remains intact. Affixed to a same-size mount and in fine condition.

Thomas D'Alesandro. Jr. (1903–1987) represented Maryland in the House of Representatives from 1939 to 1947, then served as mayor of Baltimore from 1947 to 1959. He later served on the Federal Renegotiation Board—charged with reviewing and renegotiating defense contracts to prevent excessive profits by private enterprise—from 1961 to 1969.
