French physician and politician (1738-1814) whose name became synonymous with the 'humane' instrument of execution whose use he proposed to the government during the French Revolution. Vellum manuscript DS in French, signed “Guillotin,” one page, 12.5 x 9.25, September 24, 1807. Diploma of the Academie de Medecine de Paris, signed at the conclusion in ink by Joseph Guillotin and other members of the academy's faculty, including president Edme-Claude Bourru. In fine condition.
