Description

Hungarian statesman (1802–1894) who played a leading role in bringing parliamentary government to that country. After abdicating his briefly held post as regent-president in the turmoil that followed the ascension of Emperor Franz Joseph in 1848, the fugitive leader made a successful tour of Britain and the United States. ALS in Hungarian, signed “Kossuth,” one page, 5.25 x 6.75, February 7, 1851. Short, untranslated handwritten letter from Lajos Kossuth. In very good to fine condition, with light creasing, soiling, and a small stain; a support sheet is affixed to the inner pages.

From the personal collection of a lifelong collector, teacher, and traveler with a passion for world history. His collecting years ranged from the 1970s to the present day, meaning that several of the premier pieces have not been on the market in decades.
