Description

ALS, one page, 5.5 x 8.5, December 9, 1889. Handwritten letter to Harry H. Hause, in part: "The question often asked 'What is to become of the man—what is he to do—who having been Chief Magistrate of the Republic retires at the end of his official term to private life?' The reply, it seems to me, is near at hand and sufficient: Let him like every other good citizen, be willing and prompt to bear his part in every useful walk that will promote the happiness and welfare of his family, his town, his State and his Country." In fine condition.
