Description

‘And we’re all gonna miss you’—one-of-a-kind Steve Jobs-signed Apple Computer 1982 ‘farewell roast’ certificate presented to Taylor Pohlman, a former Apple product manager, one-time direct report to Jobs and the future developer of PowerPoint, accompanied by its original Apple Macintosh 128K computer send-off gift

Exceptionally rare in-house Apple Computer award certificate, signed “steve p. jobs,” who personally presented this award during a farewell roast in honor of Taylor Pohlman, a Product Marketing Manager at Apple Computer, one page, 10.75 x 8.75, December 7, 1982. The illuminated handwritten certificate reads, in full: “Apple Computer presents to Taylor Pohlman, A Macintosh computer in recognition of his valuable contributions towards Apple’s success.” The lower portion is signed prominently in black ballpoint by Steve Jobs as “Chairman of the Board,” across from a hand-painted Apple ‘rainbow’ logo.

Included with the certificate is the referenced "Macintosh computer" presented to Pohlman: an original Apple Macintosh 128K computer, Model No. M0001, Serial No. F4174PQM0001, with the FCC ID plate on the back and the serial number label affixed below the front bezel. The serial number indicates that this Macintosh was manufactured in Fremont, California, during the 17th week of 1984; Pohlman later updated the computer to a Macintosh Plus 1Mb (Model No. M0001A). The computer includes a power cord, and original mouse (M0100), and keyboard (M0110).

The award is framed and in fine condition, with light dampstaining to the right side, near but not touching the signature. The computer is fully functional and in fine cosmetic condition. Accompanied by a signed letter of provenance from Pohlman, a floppy disk marked “MacWrite/MacPaint, MMC 9/91,” a photo of Jobs and Pohlman at the banquet, and a DVD containing video of Jobs’ roast of Pohlman, which shows the Apple co-founder reading the certificate before handing it to Pohlman.
