Description

Jobs thanks the AppleWorks creator: "I wanted to congratulate you on the phenomenal success of your AppleWorks program and thank you for the contribution you have made to Apple Computer"

TLS signed “steve,” one page, 7.25 x 10.5, personal Apple Computer, Inc. letterhead, May 9, 1985. Letter to AppleWorks creator Rupert Lissner, in full: "I wanted to congratulate you on the phenomenal success of your AppleWorks program and thank you for the contribution you have made to Apple Computer. I very much respect the creativity and quality of your work and wanted to let you know how much I appreciate your efforts." In fine condition. Accompanied by Lissner's own archive of AppleWorks clippings and ephemera, including his "inCider Magazine People's Choice Award" certificate from December 1986, various relevant clipped magazine covers and reviews of the AppleWorks software, and an AppleWorks sales brochure.

Accompanied by a letter of provenance signed by Lissner, in part: "My name is Robert Lissner, though many in the early Apple community knew me by my given name, Rupert Lissner, which I later legally changed. I am providing this letter to formally document the provenance of the enclosed Steve Jobs-signed letter dated May 9, 1985, addressed to me at that time as 'Rupert.'

In the early 1980s, I created the software program AppleWorks, which became one of the most successful and influential productivity applications in Apple's history. AppleWorks combined word processing, spreadsheet, and database functions into a single integrated suite, and it quickly became the cornerstone product for Apple II users worldwide. The program's commercial success had a meaningful impact on Apple's software ecosystem, user adoption, and market growth during a critical period in the company's development.

The letter offered here was written to me personally by Steve Jobs, Chairman of the Board of Apple Computer at the time. In it, Steve congratulates me on the 'phenomenal success' of AppleWorks and expresses appreciation for my contribution to Apple. This letter has remained in my possession since the day I received it in 1985. It is an authentic, direct communication from Steve Jobs to me, acknowledging my work and its importance to the company."
