Description

Early in the Civil War, Jefferson Davis introduces his nephew to General Beauregard: "Being like yourself a Creole of La. there will be that connecting link between you to initiate an acquaintance"

Civil War-dated ALS signed “Jeffer. Davis,” one page, 5 x 8, September 20, 1861. Handwritten letter to "G. T. Beauregard," sent from Richmond, Virginia. In full: "Permit me to present to your acquaintance my Nephew Dr. J. D. Smith of La. who visit the Army of the Potomac to see some friends and to look after the sick from his section. Being like yourself a Creole of La. there will be that connecting link between you to initiate an acquaintance which I hope will have long and pleasant continuance. For any attention shown to my kinsman I will be personally grateful." In very good to fine condition, with overall staining affecting only appearance.
