"This stamp was taken off a letter taken from a dead rebel’s pocket"

Civil War-era circa 1863-64 Confederate States of America (CSA) Scott #11 ‘Jefferson Davis’ Blue stamp, .75˝ x 1˝, which was removed from a letter found in the pocket of a deceased Confederate soldier. The 'battlefield stamp' is affixed to the left side of an off-white 5.5 x 3.25 sheet bearing a period handwritten notation: “Confederate / This stamp was taken off a letter taken from a dead rebel’s pocket by C. C. Tupper. The letter was from the soldier’s sweetheart. Matted to a slightly larger size and in fine condition.
